NAME OF GOD: El Hakabodh

Pastor Tony Evans created a list of all the names of God and their pronunciations that can be found here. He also included the scripture for each one. I am going to put every English translation from biblegateway.com. I don’t know what all of the abbreviations stand for. You can click the hyperlink abbreviation to be directed to biblegateway.com and discover which version is which if you are unsure. 😉 My thoughts are italicized.

MEANING: The God of Glory

VERSE: Psalm 29:3

KJ21 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thundereth; the Lord is upon many waters.

The first and last parts reminds me of Jehovah in Genesis 2:4. The middle speaks to the power of God.

ASV The voice of Jehovah is upon the waters: The God of glory thundereth, Even Jehovah upon many waters.

Well I guess I was right to be reminded of Jehovah. I do so much formatting to start with then read each translation individually. I truly, don’t really see the coincidences or similarities below whatever I write until I get to it. 🤷🏾‍♀️😂

AMP The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters.

I read on past this to BRG but had to come back. Over many waters. Water is the most prevalent thing on Earth. Per science, there may be water elsewhere in our universe. There are theories that multiple universes exist. So, it is possible that there is so much water that we don’t even know about. God is over it all. He is so big. Romans 11:33 says O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

AMPC The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is upon many (great) waters.

BRG The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters.

CSB The voice of the Lord is above the waters. The God of glory thunders— the Lord, above the vast water,

Above. Over. A king on His throne.

CEB The Lord’s voice is over the waters; the glorious God thunders; the Lord is over the mighty waters.

CJB The voice of Adonai is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, Adonai over rushing waters,

Adonai. Master over all.

CEV The voice of the Lord echoes over the oceans. The glorious Lord God thunders above the roar of the raging sea,

Duuuuuuude. Like. The roar of the raging sea is powerful. But God thunders above it. He is more powerful than that. Jesus, God in the flesh, spoke peace to the wind and sea (Mark 4:39). He was more powerful than that storm. And today. The name of Jesus, still Jesus himself, is more powerful than ANY storm we face.

DARBY The voice of Jehovah is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth,—Jehovah upon great waters.

DRA O Lord my God, I have cried to thee, and then hast healed me.

This is the second time I’ve noticed how completely different this translation is from the others. And I’m here for it. I love these words.

ERV The Lord’s voice can be heard over the sea. The voice of our glorious Lord God is like thunder over the great ocean.

EHV The voice of the Lord is heard over the waters. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders above the mighty waters.

ESV The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters.

God of glory.

ESVUK The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters.

EXB The Lord’s voice [C thunder] is heard over the ·sea [L waters; C a symbol of chaos]. The glorious God thunders; the Lord thunders over the ·ocean [L many/mighty waters].

His voice is the thunder. His voice is the power/powerful. Man.

GNV The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory maketh it to thunder: the Lord is upon the great waters.

GW The voice of the Lord rolls over the water. The God of glory thunders. The Lord shouts over raging water.

GNT The voice of the Lord is heard on the seas; the glorious God thunders, and his voice echoes over the ocean.

HCSB The voice of the Lord is above the waters. The God of glory thunders— the Lord, above vast waters,

ICB The Lord’s voice is heard over the sea. The glorious God thunders. The Lord thunders over the great ocean.

ISV The voice of the Lord was heard above the waters; the God of glory thundered; the Lord was heard over many waters.

JUB The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is upon many waters.

Many waters. I saw it one way earlier. But now. Many. A lot. Multiple things. He is God over all. All humans. All things. All problems. All issues. All circumstances. All things we face and deal with. All hurt. All pain. ALL disappointment. All. Every thing. Everything. But not just Him. His voice. His word. His Word. His promises. The same Voice that spoke and created everything that exists. The same Voice that spoke peace. It is the same Voice, Word, promise that will speak over us if we allow Him to.

KJV The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters.

AKJV The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters.

LEB The voice of Yahweh is over the waters; the God of glory thunders. Yahweh is over many waters.

TLB The voice of the Lord echoes from the clouds. The God of glory thunders through the skies.

I saw echo earlier and kept going. But man. To me, an echo is a leftover sound or vibration from an original sound. The voice of the Lord is so powerful that His echo, the leftover sound, vibration, has power.

MSG God thunders across the waters, Brilliant, his voice and his face, streaming brightness— God, across the flood waters.

Old faithful MSG. The vivid imagery of the words.

MEV The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is over many waters.

NOG The voice of Yahweh rolls over the water. The El of glory thunders. Yahweh shouts over raging water.

Again. I skipped over rolls. If you roll somewhere you are constantly in motion. Until you come across and obstacle, lose momentum, or stop making yourself roll, you will continue covering whatever surface you are on. Running, in this context, seems to be like a shirt term, fixed point of impact or power. You stop and start and hit the ground hard. The power of God is a continuous motion. I am about to be no good today. Geeze.

NABRE The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over the mighty waters.

Shining greatness.

YLT The voice of Jehovah [is] on the waters, The God of glory hath thundered, Jehovah [is] on many waters.

Thundered. Past tense. Made His presence known. Good God from glory. Sheesh. I’m out.

Isaiah 25-26 The Message MSG

My words will be italicized wherever they appear. Should the Bible be italicized near my words, I’ll do something to differentiate them.

Isaiah 25

God’s Hand Rests on This Mountain

1-5 God, you are my God.
I celebrate you. I praise you.
You’ve done your share of miracle-wonders,
    well-thought-out plans, solid and sure.
Here you’ve reduced the city to rubble,
the strong city to a pile of stones.
The enemy Big City is a non-city,
never to be a city again.
Superpowers will see it and honor you,
brutal oppressors bow in worshipful reverence.
They’ll see that you take care of the poor,
that you take care of poor people in trouble,
Provide a warm, dry place in bad weather,
provide a cool place when it’s hot.
Brutal oppressors are like a winter blizzard
and vicious foreigners like high noon in the desert.
But you, shelter from the storm and shade from the sun,
shut the mouths of the big-mouthed bullies.

It’s the worship for me…

6-8 But here on this mountain, God-of-the-Angel-Armies
will throw a feast for all the people of the world,
A feast of the finest foods, a feast with vintage wines,
a feast of seven courses, a feast lavish with gourmet desserts.
And here on this mountain, God will banish
the pall of doom hanging over all peoples,
The shadow of doom darkening all nations.
    Yes, he’ll banish death forever.
And God will wipe the tears from every face.
He’ll remove every sign of disgrace
From his people, wherever they are.
    Yes! God says so!

The wine again. Lol. At first it made me think of the vineyard he’s talked about. Then it made me think of Jesus. His first miracle was turning water into wine (John 2:1-11). He talked about wine skins (Matthew 9:18). He also talked about being the true vine (John 15:1-6). OMG. THE BLOOOOOOD! Eventually, he used wine as a representation of his blood at the last supper (Mark 14:23-25). Maaaaaan sheesh. I cannot. This is what people mean when they say you can look at something you’ve read before and see it in a whole new way. I felt bad that I was too tired to do this last night after letting the day escape me. I’m glad I went to sleep and got on this first thing. Cuz I probably wouldn’t have ended up where I did…

9-10 Also at that time, people will say,
“Look at what’s happened! This is our God!
We waited for him and he showed up and saved us!
This God, the one we waited for!
Let’s celebrate, sing the joys of his salvation.
God’s hand rests on this mountain!”

Yaaaaaas! Good, good Father!

10-12 As for the Moabites, they’ll be treated like trash,
    waste shoveled into a cesspool.
Thrash away as they will,
like swimmers trying to stay afloat,
They’ll sink in the sewage.
Their pride will pull them under.
Their famous fortifications will crumble to nothing,
those mighty walls reduced to dust.

I mean. I know they didn’t do right. But Moab brought us Jesus. Buuuuuut. Just because some good comes out of some stuff doesn’t mean all.of it is good and that it should be kept or looked upon favorably as a whole.

Isaiah 26

Stretch the Borders of Life

1-6 At that time, this song
will be sung in the country of Judah:
We have a strong city, Salvation City,
    built and fortified with salvation.
Throw wide the gates
so good and true people can enter.
People with their minds set on you,
    you keep completely whole,
Steady on their feet,
because they keep at it and don’t quit.
Depend on God and keep at it
because in the Lord God you have a sure thing.
Those who lived high and mighty
he knocked off their high horse.
He used the city built on the hill
    as fill for the marshes.
All the exploited and outcast peoples
build their lives on the reclaimed land.

I don’t really have the words. God is so good. The knowledge that He is our salvation. If we keep.out minds on Him we are whole. We are steady because we keep at it and don’t quit. We depend on Him and keep going BECAUASE HE IS A SURE THING. I know it is written already. But still. He will never fail us. He will never, truly disappoint us cuz it works out in the end. He will never walk out on us. He will ALWAYS be there for us. In a life filled with the failures of people, I am reminded and grateful for the fact that God has never and will never fail or abandon me.

7-10 The path of right-living people is level.
The Leveler evens the road for the right-living.
We’re in no hurry, God. We’re content to linger
in the path sign-posted with your decisions.
Who you are and what you’ve done
    are all we’ll ever want.
Through the night my soul longs for you.
Deep from within me my spirit reaches out to you.
When your decisions are on public display,
everyone learns how to live right.
If the wicked are shown grace,
they don’t seem to get it.
In the land of right living, they persist in wrong living,
blind to the splendor of God.

Come on through with the words Isaiah!

11-15 You hold your hand up high, God,
    but they don’t see it.
Open their eyes to what you do,
to see your zealous love for your people.
Shame them. Light a fire under them.
Get the attention of these enemies of yours.
God, order a peaceful and whole life for us
because everything we’ve done, you’ve done for us.
O God, our God, we’ve had other masters rule us,
but you’re the only Master we’ve ever known.
The dead don’t talk,
    ghosts don’t walk,
Because you’ve said, “Enough—that’s all for you,”
and wiped them off the books.
But the living you make larger than life.
The more life you give, the more glory you display,
and stretch the borders to accommodate more living!

16-18 O God, they begged you for help when they were in trouble,
when your discipline was so heavy
they could barely whisper a prayer.
Like a woman having a baby,
writhing in distress, screaming her pain
as the baby is being born,
That’s how we were because of you, O God.
    We were pregnant full-term.
We writhed in labor but bore no baby.
    We gave birth to wind.
Nothing came of our labor.
    We produced nothing living.
    We couldn’t save the world.

Sheesh.

19 But friends, your dead will live,
your corpses will get to their feet.
All you dead and buried,
    wake up! Sing!
Your dew is morning dew
catching the first rays of sun,
The earth bursting with life,
    giving birth to the dead.

This makes me want to run and holler. Judgment, punishment, and correction are still in order today. But AFTER He has done that He will still keep His promise and allow us to walk out the plan He has for us (Jeremiah 29:11).

20-21 Come, my people, go home
    and shut yourselves in.
Go into seclusion for a while
until the punishing wrath is past,
Because God is sure to come from his place
to punish the wrong of the people on earth.
Earth itself will point out the bloodstains;
it will show where the murdered have been hidden away.

Erm. Eek?!

The earth was formless and void or a waste and emptiness, and darkness was upon the face of the deep [primeval ocean that covered the unformed earth]. Hovering, brooding. What a picture.

CEV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was barren, with no form of life; it was under a roaring ocean covered with darkness. But the Spirit of God was moving over the water.

A very vivid picture. Barren. No form of life. Roaring ocean covered with darkness. It bore repeating.

JUB
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without order, and empty; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Without order. Wow. But then He continued to speak and brought order. Just like today. ONE word from God can bring order. Jesus spoke and the wind and sea came into subjection (Luke 8:23-25; Mark 4:37-41; Matthew 8:23-27). Jesus spoke so many times in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) and his word alone changed lives.

MSG
First this: God created the Heavens and Earth—all you see, all you don’t see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God’s Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.

NLV
In the beginning God made from nothing the heavens and the earth. The earth was an empty waste and darkness was over the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was moving over the top of the waters.

An empty waste……………………..

NLT

NRSV
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

The previous copule didn’t use the word face. But. Face makes it sound like it is the living thing that it is. Well that some see water is. Jesus called himself the living water (John 4:10-11). He said rivers of living water would flow out of the belly of those who believe on him (John 7:38).

NRSVA
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

NRSVCE
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

OJB
In the beginning Elohim created hashomayim (the heavens, Himel) and haaretz (the earth). And the earth was tohu vavohu (without form, and void); and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Ruach Elohim was hovering upon the face of the waters.

Okay with what I assume is the Hebrew. I’m tired and lazy. Smh.

RSV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.

RSVCE
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.

TLV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was chaos and waste, darkness was on the surface of the deep, and the Ruach Elohim was hovering upon the surface of the water.

Chaos again. Well I think another version said chaotic. But still. Man. And the name of God again. 🙂

VOICE
In the beginning, God created everything: the heavens above and the earth below. Here’s what happened: At first the earth lacked shape and was totally empty, and a dark fog draped over the deep while God’s spirit-wind hovered over the surface of the empty waters. Then there was the voice of God.

The here’s what happened made me smile. It’s like they are having a conversation. The translation is called the Voice….

WEB
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep and God’s Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

WYC
In the beginning God made of nought heaven and earth. (In the beginning God made out of nothing the heavens and the earth.) Forsooth the earth was idle and void, and darknesses were on the face of (the) depth; and the Spirit of the Lord was borne on the waters [and the Spirit of God was borne upon the waters].

Interesting word usage. But made out of nothing. Nothing was there. That’s what a void is. Tuh. God still comes in and fills voids if we let Him. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And wow. Borne. I know it isn’t born. But that’s what I thought of since ya know they are pronounced the same. We are introduced, what a birth kind of is, well the world is introduced to the Spirit of God when he speaks and creates it. Man oh man!

YLT
In the beginning of God’s preparing the heavens and the earth — the earth hath existed waste and void, and darkness [is] on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God fluttering on the face of the waters,

Preparing. That’s it. That’s all. Preparing.

Isaiah 1-3 The Message MSG

So. I’m gonna read from Isaiah through Malachi, skipping Lamentations, from now through June 15 if nothing changes.

Putting the chapter in bold with my comments regular was an exercise in patience for the parts of proverbs I did it for. Three chapters of it will be team way to much.

My words will be italicized wherever they appear. Should the Bible be italicized near my words, I’ll do something to differentiate them. 🙃😊

Isaiah Chapter 1

Messages of Judgment

Quit Your Worship Charades

¹ The vision that Isaiah son of Amoz saw regarding Judah and Jerusalem during the times of the kings of Judah: Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah.

2-4 Heaven and earth, you’re the jury.
    Listen to God’s case:
“I had children and raised them well,
    and they turned on me.
The ox knows who’s boss,
the mule knows the hand that feeds him,
But not Israel.
My people don’t know up from down.
Shame! Misguided God-dropouts,
    staggering under their guilt-baggage,
Villainous gang,
    band of vandals—
My people have walked out on me, their God,
turned their backs on The Holy of Israel,
walked off and never looked back.

5-9 “Why bother even trying to do anything with you
when you just keep to your bullheaded ways?
You keep beating your heads against brick walls.
Everything within you protests against you.
From the bottom of your feet to the top of your head,
    nothing’s working right.
Wounds and bruises and running sores—
    untended, unwashed, unbandaged.
Your country is laid waste,
    your cities burned down.
Your land is destroyed by outsiders while you watch,
    reduced to rubble by barbarians.
Daughter Zion is deserted—
like a tumbledown shack on a dead-end street,
Like a tarpaper shanty on the wrong side of the tracks,
like a sinking ship abandoned by the rats.
If God-of-the-Angel-Armies hadn’t left us a few survivors,
we’d be as desolate as Sodom, doomed just like Gomorrah.

10 “Listen to my Message,
    you Sodom-schooled leaders.
Receive God’s revelation,
    you Gomorrah-schooled people.

11-12 “Why this frenzy of sacrifices?”
    God’s asking.
“Don’t you think I’ve had my fill of burnt sacrifices,
    rams and plump grain-fed calves?
Don’t you think I’ve had my fill
of blood from bulls, lambs, and goats?
When you come before me,
whoever gave you the idea of acting like this,
Running here and there, doing this and that—
all this sheer commotion in the place provided for worship?

Man. This reminds me of when Jesus went in the temple and turned over the tables (Matthew 21:12-13; Mark 11:15-18). This also makes me think of us today and how God must feel about us…

13-17 “Quit your worship charades.
I can’t stand your trivial religious games:
Monthly conferences, weekly Sabbaths, special meetings—
meetings, meetings, meetings—I can’t stand one more!
Meetings for this, meetings for that. I hate them!
    You’ve worn me out!
I’m sick of your religion, religion, religion,
while you go right on sinning.
When you put on your next prayer-performance,
I’ll be looking the other way.
No matter how long or loud or often you pray,
    I’ll not be listening.
And do you know why? Because you’ve been tearing
people to pieces, and your hands are bloody.
Go home and wash up.
    Clean up your act.
Sweep your lives clean of your evildoings
so I don’t have to look at them any longer.
Say no to wrong.
    Learn to do good.
Work for justice.
    Help the down-and-out.
Stand up for the homeless.
Go to bat for the defenseless.

This reminds me of so many people and churches I know today. Also, the Sadducees and Pharisees of the New Testament. Crazy.

Let’s Argue This Out

18-20 “Come. Sit down. Let’s argue this out.”
    This is God’s Message:
“If your sins are blood-red,
    they’ll be snow-white.
If they’re red like crimson,
    they’ll be like wool.
If you’ll willingly obey,
    you’ll feast like kings.
But if you’re willful and stubborn,
    you’ll die like dogs.”
That’s right. God says so.

Those Who Walk Out on God

21-23 Oh! Can you believe it? The chaste city
    has become a whore!
She was once all justice,
    everyone living as good neighbors,
And now they’re all
    at one another’s throats.
Your coins are all counterfeits.
    Your wine is watered down.
Your leaders are turncoats
    who keep company with crooks.
They sell themselves to the highest bidder
and grab anything not nailed down.
They never stand up for the homeless,
never stick up for the defenseless.

This is something that appears to be going on today. All this money in all these churches to build bigger buildings. But there is little to no outreach to help those in need, the mandate Jesus gave when describing who would be welcome in heaven in Matthew 25:31-40, the hands and feet of Jesus.

24-31 This Decree, therefore, of the Master, God-of-the-Angel-Armies,
    the Strong One of Israel:
“This is it! I’ll get my oppressors off my back.
I’ll get back at my enemies.
I’ll give you the back of my hand,
purge the junk from your life, clean you up.
I’ll set honest judges and wise counselors among you
just like it was back in the beginning.
Then you’ll be renamed
    City-That-Treats-People-Right, the True-Blue City.”
God’s right ways will put Zion right again.
God’s right actions will restore her prodigals.
But it’s curtains for rebels and God-traitors,
a dead end for those who walk out on God.
“Your dalliances in those oak grove shrines
will leave you looking mighty foolish,
All that fooling around in god and goddess gardens
that you thought was the latest thing.
You’ll end up like an oak tree
with all its leaves falling off,
Like an unwatered garden,
    withered and brown.
‘The Strong Man’ will turn out to be dead bark and twigs,
and his ‘work,’ the spark that starts the fire
That exposes man and work both
as nothing but cinders and smoke

Isaiah Chapter 2

Climb God’s Mountain

The Message Isaiah got regarding Judah and Jerusalem:

1-5There’s a day coming
when the mountain of God’s House
Will be The Mountain—
    solid, towering over all mountains.
All nations will river toward it,
people from all over set out for it.
They’ll say, “Come,
    let’s climb God’s Mountain,
go to the House of the God of Jacob.
He’ll show us the way he works
so we can live the way we’re made.”
Zion’s the source of the revelation.
    God’s Message comes from Jerusalem.
He’ll settle things fairly between nations.
He’ll make things right between many peoples.
They’ll turn their swords into shovels,
    their spears into hoes.
No more will nation fight nation;
    they won’t play war anymore.
Come, family of Jacob,
let’s live in the light of God.

6-9 God, you’ve walked out on your family Jacob
because their world is full of hokey religion,
Philistine witchcraft, and pagan hocus-pocus,
    a world rolling in wealth,
Stuffed with things,
no end to its machines and gadgets,
And gods—gods of all sorts and sizes.
These people make their own gods and worship what they make.
A degenerate race, facedown in the gutter.
Don’t bother with them! They’re not worth forgiving!

Bruuuuuuuuuuh. The more things change the more things stay the same…

Pretentious Egos Brought Down to Earth

10 Head for the hills,
    hide in the caves
From the terror of God,
    from his dazzling presence.

11-17 People with a big head are headed for a fall,
pretentious egos brought down a peg.
It’s God alone at front-and-center
on the Day we’re talking about,
The Day that God-of-the-Angel-Armies
is matched against all big-talking rivals,
    against all swaggering big names;
Against all giant sequoias
    hugely towering,
    and against the expansive chestnut;
Against Kilimanjaro and Annapurna,
    against the ranges of Alps and Andes;
Against every soaring skyscraper,
    against all proud obelisks and statues;
Against ocean-going luxury liners,
    against elegant three-masted schooners.
The swelled big heads will be punctured bladders,
the pretentious egos brought down to earth,
Leaving God alone at front-and-center
on the Day we’re talking about.

The first part reminds me of what I just read last month. Pride before destruction, haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18 King James Version KJV). The last part…what I’m going to get to eventually: Isaiah 42:8 KJV (…my glory I will not give to another…) and Philippians 2:10-11 KJV (That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father).

18 And all those sticks and stones
dressed up to look like gods
    will be gone for good.

19 Clamber into caves in the cliffs,
duck into any hole you can find.
Hide from the terror of God,
    from his dazzling presence,
When he assumes his full stature on earth,
    towering and terrifying.

It is interesting that the instruction is hide when Adam and Eve’s hiding was pointless in Genesis 3:8 because God already knew, even though He asked Adam where he was in verse 9. I heard a preacher once say that God doesn’t ask questions that He doesn’t already know the answer to. I would give them credit. But I’m not 100% I have the right one.

20-21 On that Day men and women will take
    the sticks and stones
They’ve decked out in gold and silver
to look like gods and then worshiped,
And they will dump them
    in any ditch or gully,
Then run for rock caves
    and cliff hideouts
To hide from the terror of God,
    from his dazzling presence,
When he assumes his full stature on earth,
    towering and terrifying.

22 Quit scraping and fawning over mere humans,
so full of themselves, so full of hot air!
Can’t you see there’s nothing to them?

Makes me think of how much people want to be like others but don’t know how fake and cultivated the presentations are.

Isaiah Chapter 3

Jerusalem on Its Last Legs

1-7 The Master, God-of-the-Angel-Armies,
    is emptying Jerusalem and Judah
Of all the basic necessities,
plain bread and water to begin with.
He’s withdrawing police and protection,
    judges and courts,
    pastors and teachers,
    captains and generals,
    doctors and nurses,
and, yes, even the repairmen and jacks-of-all-trades.
He says, “I’ll put little kids in charge of the city.
Schoolboys and schoolgirls will order everyone around.
People will be at each other’s throats,
stabbing one another in the back:
Neighbor against neighbor, young against old,
    the no-account against the well-respected.
One brother will grab another and say,
‘You look like you’ve got a head on your shoulders.
Do something!
Get us out of this mess.’
And he’ll say, ‘Me? Not me! I don’t have a clue.
Don’t put me in charge of anything.’

8-9 “Jerusalem’s on its last legs.
Judah is soon down for the count.
Everything people say and do
    is at cross-purposes with God,
    a slap in my face.
Brazen in their depravity,
they flaunt their sins like degenerate Sodom.
Doom to their eternal souls! They’ve made their bed;
    now they’ll sleep in it.

10-11 “Reassure the righteous
that their good living will pay off.
But doom to the wicked! Disaster!
Everything they did will be done to them.

12 “Skinny kids terrorize my people.
    Silly girls bully them around.
My dear people! Your leaders are taking you down a blind alley.
They’re sending you off on a wild-goose chase.”

A City Brought to Her Knees by Her Sorrows

13-15 God enters the courtroom.
He takes his place at the bench to judge his people.
God calls for order in the court,
hauls the leaders of his people into the dock:
“You’ve played havoc with this country.
Your houses are stuffed with what you’ve stolen from the poor.
What is this anyway? Stomping on my people,
grinding the faces of the poor into the dirt?”
That’s what the Master,
    God-of-the-Angel-Armies, says.

I love the reminder that God is whatever and whoever we need Him to be. Here he is needed as a judge. But He is so many things all through the Bible and through Jesus to us today.

16-17 God says, “Zion women are stuck-up,
prancing around in their high heels,
Making eyes at all the men in the street,
    swinging their hips,
Tossing their hair,
gaudy and garish in cheap jewelry.”
The Master will fix it so those Zion women
    will all turn bald—
Scabby, bald-headed women.
    The Master will do it.

Whoa. Eek. Sheesh.

18-23 The time is coming when the Master will strip them of their fancy baubles—the dangling earrings, anklets and bracelets, combs and mirrors and silk scarves, diamond brooches and pearl necklaces, the rings on their fingers and the rings on their toes, the latest fashions in hats, exotic perfumes and aphrodisiacs, gowns and capes, all the world’s finest in fabrics and design.

24 Instead of wearing seductive scents,
    these women are going to smell like rotting cabbages;
Instead of modeling flowing gowns,
    they’ll be sporting rags;
Instead of their stylish hairdos,
    scruffy heads;
Instead of beauty marks,
    scabs and scars.

Um what? Lol.

25-26 Your finest fighting men will be killed,
your soldiers left dead on the battlefield.
The entrance gate to Zion will be clotted
    with people mourning their dead—
A city stooped under the weight of her loss,
brought to her knees by her sorrows.

God wasn’t playin with these people! Buckle up cuz He has so much more to say in these prophetic books of the Bible. And He is talking about so many of us today…

Words, Words, Words

All I had as a draft was the title. Ima see what I come up with.

Words matter. Sentence structure matters. Semantics. The English language is one of the hardest to learn for a person for whom English is not their first language. So many words sound the same but are spelled the same. The silent letters. The rules. Sure, for English speakers, other languages may be difficult. I learned Spanish. Their rules make a lot more sense than some of those I remember from my English classes. There are a multitude, a litany of exceptions for our words. For the most part, Spanish rules are pretty constant.

Lissen. Those last couple of sentences are sending me somewhere I cannot go. Lol. Just ponder them and see what you come up with. 😉

The Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). James 3 is a whole situation about the tongue and our mouths. He talks about how small they are and how much fire they can kindle. The thing that I thought of is his question in verse 11: Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter.

When reading it to put a couple of other things here I was also reminded of verses 9 and 10: Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

God spoke and created the earth. Go catch that first chapter of Genesis. Throughout the ENTIRE Bible, the words, promises of God and His vessels, Jesus shift lives and entire nations. Over and over again.

My thing is this. God breathed His breath into man in Genesis. Jesus promised us power to do greater works he did (John 14:12). He stated that things could be spoken to or spoke to them (fig tree, mountains, demons, wind and sea). So, if God spoke, Jesus spoke and promised us greater works than him, if we speak, we have the ability to have what we say.

It is so very crucial as believers to only speak positively and what God says. When I say what God says, I mean speak His word. The Bible. And, if He speaks to you personally, say that as well. Saying what God says isn’t 100% literal though. We have to speak well of, about, and to each other. With kind words. That is the essence of His Word and those who wrote under His inspiration.

Many of us were called things contrary to the plan of God for our lives. Many of us were called things contrary to who God made us. People didn’t know better or they passed their issues onto us. Some of us began to become what others said we were. Some of us began to call ourselves what others called us.

I thought about that thang one day. And you know what I did? I put the Word on it! I bound it because Jesus said what I bind on earth would be bound in heaven. I loosed what God thinks, what He says because he said what I loose on earth would be loosed in heaven (all bof of em are Matthew 18:18). I cursed it at the root and sent it back to the pit of hell where it belongs (churchy phrase with likely origins to that fig tree mentioned abouve).

I submit to you today, that if you are struggling with your words, study to be quiet (1 Thessalonians 4:11). Study the Word. Say things the way they should be said and say only what should be said. Not idle, wasteful things. I’m working on this myself as I believe I stated elsewhere.

If you are struggling with the words of others, study the word to find out who God and His vessels say we are. This. This. This. This. And this are great places to start.

Proverbs 3

*Summary of The Message (MSG) version*

1-2: Don’t forget what we’ve been taught and take the commands to heart because they will help you live a long, full, well lived life.

It is important to remember the words of the Proverbs, but also the “words” of our lives. If we don’t keep in mind what we have been through and what we have learned, we are liable to have to endure it again. Cycles. Frustration. Wilderness. But, if we keep our lessons, what God has done for us, ever before us, we can move on and experience other things because we aren’t needlessly going through the same thing time and time again.

3-4: Maintain love and loyalty, tying them around our neck, carving their initials on our heart. Earn a reputation for living well in God and the people’s eyes

So interesting to me that love is mentioned as something we should maintain, along with loyalty, and carving their initials on our heart. Why? Because love for others, and his love for us, was so important to Jesus. It is all through the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). The Psalmist says they hide the Word in their heart that they might not sin against God (Psalm 119:11). God is love (1 John 4:7). The Word is God (John 1:1). So amazing how the Word confirms itself. It is important that we live well. Later, in 2 Corinthians 3:2, Paul tells us that we are epistles, letters, known and read of men.

5-12: Trust God from the bottom of our hearts, not trying to figure out things on our own. Listen for God’s voice in everything we do and wherever we go because He will keep us on track. Don’t assume we know everything. Run to god and from evil. Our bodies will glow healthily, bones will vibrate with life. Honor God with everything we own, giving him the first and best. We will have an abundance if we do. Don’t resent God’s discipline or take issue with His loving correction. He corrects us because he loves us.

The King James Version (KJV) says with all our heart. But seeing the bottom in the Message (MSG) version hit differently today. The bottom is the lowest part. It still means all. But seeing bottom means, to me today, with every single bit, with every last drop. With everything and all that you have. KJV says not to lean to our own understanding. The simplicity of the MSG version packs a different punch too. Leaning to our own understanding seems to speak to not doing what we know. Here, it is telling us not to be independent but depend on God. KJV says to acknowledge him in all our ways and He will direct our paths. This version is so much more thorough and intentional. Not just acknowledge Him, but also listen for His voice in EVERYTHING because he will keep us on track. This seems like it is saying be humble sit down. Hahaha. How great is it that if we run to God, we will have life and health? Giving God our first and best leading to abundance reminds me of Malachi 3 and the promise if we give tithes and offering.

13-18: Meeting wisdom is a blessing. Insight as our friend is worth more money in the bank, her friendship better than a big salary. Her value is more than what comes with wealth, nothing we desire compares to her. She gives long life on one hand and recognition on the other. She has a beautiful manner, with wonderful life that is complete, a tree of life if we embrace her. If we hold her tight we will be blessed.

I don’t know how much more even needs to be said. Wisdom and insight are so vital and important to us. We need to make sure we use wisdom and insight in all that we do.

19-20: God formed the earth with wisdom, raised heaven with insight. They knew when to signal rivers and springs to surface and dew to descend from night skies.

Same. Y’all. Same. But. How cool is God that He gives us what He used to create the world to enable us to live well and be in relationship with Him.

21-26: Guard clear thinking and common sense with our lives and don’t lose sight of them. They will keep our soul alive and well, us fit and attractive. We will have safe travel without tiring or tripping, napping without worry, sleeping well at night. We will not panic over alarms or surprises, predictions of doomsday because God will be with us keeping us safe and sound.

Being free from clutter and distraction in our mind, as well as having common sense, sets us up to live our best lives without stress and worry, without being tired and falling down. Duh. Lol.

27-29: Don’t abandon anyone who deserves help as we are God’s hand for them. Don’t put our neighbor off for later if we have the money. Don’t find ways to take advantage of a trusting, unsuspecting neighbor.

Hands and feet of Jesus. That’s what I thought. People say that’s what we should be as Christians. Facts. Jesus told us as much. Whatever we do unto those who need it we are doing unto him (Matthew 25:31-46).

30-32: Don’t have a chip on our shoulder looking to fight. Don’t shoulder our way through life being a bully because God can’t stand twisted souls. The straightforward get God’s respect.

I mean. What more is there to say? That’s not who God is. We are to be holy because He is holy (1 Peter 1:16). A bully ain’t that.

33-35: The house of the wicked are cursed by God but the home of the righteous is blessed. Proud skeptics are given a cold shoulder but those down on their luck receive help. Honor is given to wise living. Booby prizes are given to stupid living.

Reaping and sowing. Reaping and sowing. Galatians 6:7.

Wind and Waves

Life isn’t all sunshine and roses despite the beautiful locale and awesome revelation.

I have two specific situations that I am not a fan of. I really wanna give the assignments back to God.

I told Him as much. My relationship with God is truly like some I have with his humans.

I tell him everything. Especially when what’s going on, and at times Him specifically, if I’m honest, is getting on my nerves.

People say He can’t heal what we don’t reveal. I give Him all of it. He already knows. But, He wants me to tell Him and give it to Him.

I’ve run away from one of the situations before. Honestly, if I try and it doesn’t get better, I chuck the deuces. I tried to run away from the other situation after basically being left holding the bag alone.

However, for reasons known and unknown, there’s more for me and those involved in these situations.

The disciples found themselves in at least two storms with Jesus.

He was asleep during one storm (Mark 4:38-40). Jesus questioned their fear because he was on the boat.

In the other storm, the disciples didn’t recognize him at first (Matthew 14:25-32). Then Peter, ever the brave, outspoken, slightly reckless disciple, was the only one willing to engage in the miracle and get out of the boat.

But, he got distracted by the storm. Jesus chastised his doubt. The wind and waves calmed as soon as they got on the boat.

The thing to note is that Jesus was there. He allowed them to experience the wind and waves. Then, he showed them that as long as he is present he has the power to help them through.

He quieted the wind and waves after he awoke from his sleep. He saved Peter after he called to Jesus while he was sinking.

My situations are slightly overwhelming to my feelings, emotions, and carefully cultivated peace.

I’m not a fan of the disruption, wind, and waves they are bringing currently and forecasted for the future. I know the forecast because I know what I have to do. Again, not a fan.

I’m in the boat with Paul-I’d love for Him to remove the thorn. But, now as then, His grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). I would love for this cup to pass like Jesus requested before his death (Matthew 26:39). But, my refrain is the same. His will not mine. Ugh.

I know one thing for sure and two things for certain. He is with me. I will make it through. And He will get the glory.

After all, wind and waves are mechanisms to propel boats forward to their destinations. There is just some wind and some waves that are more preferable than others. I would definitely prefer some different ones.

Alas, all things work together for good (Romans 8:28). He has plans to prosper me (Jeremiah 29:11). I can do all things because he strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). I won’t drown (Isaiah 43:2).

*edit* it is JUST like God ro allow a storm today…

Time

There is this dope mom on Instagram (@mytransparentmoments) run by one of the dopest chicks (@shanickavailhouae) I’ve encountered on Al Gore’s innanet.

I’ve been peepin her game for at least six years. I know cuz it was before she got married in 2014. Ha!

The way she allowed God to use her in her singleness concerning her personal life and job as an assistant was cool. But THE WAY she has evolved it into THE transparent mom. Tuh. She is an inspiration to single and married folk, to parents and the childless.

Ima send her link to this. The church folk say give people their flowers while they are living. A.K.A. take the time to show them you appreciate them while they are around to hear it.

The way she parents, seeking God and valuing her children as the gift they are, is something to behold and should be THE standard.

She is hard on herself. With reason sometimes and without others. She is self aware and holds herself accountable. If more humans only took the time tondonthat…

She’s been talking about time and planning lately. It has blessed me. I got a whole vision situation taking place with my brother this week.

She recommended this sermon by Dr. Dharius Daniels. It’s called Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That as part of a series entitled Boss Moves.

Let me tell you. The lady never gets it wrong. He. Man. I won’t tell much. It’s only like 40 minutes. I’m linking it and her pages. Do yourself a favor.

Anyway. The point. He discusses the importance of managing our time.

It’s five something where I am. I have been taught, and heard others say, when you can’t sleep or you are awakened, that’s the time to pray. So I started and this hit me.

Dr. Daniels said praying is an investment with a great ROI (return on investment). I’m for real not giving too much more cuz watching or listening would be a great investment for you.

It is imperative, if you are a follower of Christ and a believer, that you take the time to cultivate a relationship. Relationships with people require intention and communication. Time.

Prayer is time with Christ that is intentional communication. Dr. Daniels talked about distraction when praying. Peter, James, and John were distracted by sleep when they should have been praying in the garden of Gethsemane before Jesuswas taken and eventually crucified (Mark 14:32-42).

Things come that distract us from intentionality in our relationships and our relationship with Christ.

But, there is good news. Peter is a superstar in the Christian faith. For those who believe in the Apostolic doctrine (Acts 2:38), he was given the authority to began building the kingdom per Jesus (Matthew 16:15-19). He got his prayer life and relationship together. He wrote two books of the Bible.

John got it together. He told us about Jesus through the lens of love in the book of John. He continued to talk about love and some other important things in the three additional books attributed to him. There’s some dispute about if the John who authored Revelation.

James got it together enough to be present in Acts 2. Jesus had a brother named James. There’s a dispute about who wrote James too.

Dr. Daniels was teaching us about the importance of prayer. I think it is safe to assume that he has a great prayer life. He’s pastoring and edifying, blessing the people with his sermons. I’d wager a yes to his improved prayer life.

The great thing about time is this: for a time, God gives us time to get it right. Where our treasure, including our time, is exposes where our hearts are (Matthew6:22). Ecclesiastes 3 tells us there is a time for everything.

The MOST important time is time with Jesus. That gives you the blueprint for what to do with the rest of your time.

I took the time to write this here lil post. I’m gone take the time to pray. And then I’m gonna hope I get the time to go back to sleep for a bit on this here vacation.
