Pastor Tony Evans created a list of all the names of God and their pronunciations that can be found here. He also included the scripture for each one. I am going to put every English translation from biblegateway.com. I don’t know what all of the abbreviations stand for. MEANING: God who is near

Jeremiah 23:23

KJ21 “Am I a God at hand,” saith the Lord, “and not a God afar off?

Love the reassurance that God is close by. At hand reminds me of the instances in the Bible where the hand denotes power. So, to me, not only is He saying He’s close, but, this is a reminder of His power.

ASV Am I a God at hand, saith Jehovah, and not a God afar off?

AMP “Am I a God who is at hand,” says the Lord, “And not a God far away?”

LEB Am I a God from near,” declares Yahweh, “and not a God from far?

TLB Am I a God who is only in one place and cannot see what they are doing?

I got confused because the second half switched up and seems to say something different in different translations. But, I got it together after reading a few again. The children of Israel had been oppressed. They also turned away from God. God reminds Jeremiah that He is close. But, Jeremiah has honest conversations with God. It appears that God is telling him that He is close but He is far also and He sees what everybody is doing and what all is going on.

MSG “Am I not a God near at hand”—God’s Decree— “and not a God far off? Can anyone hide out in a corner where I can’t see him?” God’s Decree. “Am I not present everywhere, whether seen or unseen?” God’s Decree.

Whether seen or unseen. It can sometimes seem like God is nowhere around because we don’t see Him. How nice is the reminder that He is present even when we don’t see Him?

MEANING: God of Heights

Verse: Micah 6:6

KJ21 With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

Reminds me of Isaiah 57 and 6 when he saw and says God is high and lifted. Above it all. Seeing it all. Sheesh.

ASV Wherewith shall I come before Jehovah, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt-offerings, with calves a year old?

The humbleness and actualization, reality of how small he is compared to God. The awe and reverence of it all.

AMP With what shall I come before the Lord [to honor Him] And bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, With yearling calves?

And I begin to worship Him. I worship Him. For all He’s done for me. How He redeemed and set me free. And because, just because He’s God.
